Stay Connected & Safe: Resources for Ethiopia's LGBTQ+ Community

Ethiopia's LGBTQ+ community is facing a rise in online harassment and violence, according to a local support group. The group blames inciteful content on TikTok, where videos calling for violence against LGBTQ+ people are circulating. This includes calls for whippings, stabbings, and even killings. The situation is causing fear and forcing some to flee the country.

Building a Safe Haven: Supporting LGBTQ+ Ethiopians in Need

The current situation in Ethiopia poses a significant threat to the safety and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals. While resources exist online and through diaspora groups like the House of Guramayle, there's a critical need for safe houses within the country itself. These safe houses would provide temporary or long-term shelter, essential support services, and a crucial sense of community for those facing discrimination and violence.

Imagine a place where LGBTQ+ Ethiopians can find refuge from harassment, threats, or even expulsion from their homes. This safe house would offer a secure environment with basic necessities like food, clothing, and medical care. Beyond these essentials, it would provide a vital sense of belonging and acceptance. Imagine a space where individuals can connect with others who share their experiences, build support networks, and access resources for mental health services, legal aid, and potential relocation assistance.

Creating such a safe haven requires significant funding. We are actively seeking donations to make this vision a reality. Donations will be used to secure safe locations, furnish the space and provide essential supplies

We can turn this vision into a beacon of hope for LGBTQ+ Ethiopians in need. Together, we can create a safe space where individuals can rebuild their lives with dignity and security.
